Background- Heinmarath Goldenhammer was born as the son of Lord Arriman Goldenhammer, master of the Goldenhammer clan and the fortress of Mount Gardelar. Heinmarath, along with his forty-some siblings, was trained in the arts of combat, politics, and artiface from a very early age. Heinmarath was identified as one of the two most able heirs to the throne quite quickly; he was seen as the brightest, most skilled, and most inventive of Lord Goldenhammer's children, with only his younger brother Biriman even coming close to reaching his potential. Heinmarath was, by his father's orders, personally trained by Khil'zik'kikkil, the demon artifacer who had allied himself with Lord Goldenhammer and his clan many years ago. Though the demon was a strict master, Heinmarath surpassed all of his expectations, growing to become an even greater craftsmen in under three years, a feat which not even his father had anticipated. At the age of 44, Heinmarath was named the leader of one of his father's armies, and he was sent out to war against the nearby human nation ruled by King Balandio, whose caravans had begun to refuse to pay the tolls demanded by the Goldenhammer clan. Heinmarath displayed great brilliance during the war campaign, even inventing an entirely new sort of artillary to use against the dwarves' foes, and he returned to his home nation as a lauded hero. Following his Brother Biriman's exile, Heinmarath was named to be the heir to his father's throne. Though his elder siblings grumbled some at this appointment, they all agreed that he was certainly the most suited for the position. Goldenhammer's great passion for the creation and safeguarding of artifacts came following his recieval of the Forgemaster's Hammer, a family heirloom gifted to him by his father upon the announcement of his succession. Goldenhammer began to study the powerful items, and, over the years, learned to attune himself to them and delved into the secrets of their inner workings. After two hundred years of study, invention, war, and celebrations of victory, Heinmarath made a formal request to his father to travel the worlds, collecting artifacts and other magical items to bring back to his clan. His father, seeing the potential in the acquisition of such items, readily agreed. Heinmarath set out on his journey and travelled the worlds, collecting one artifact after another, bargaining for some and slaying those whom he both deemed unworthy to wield artifacts and who refused to acquiesce to his demands for them. Goldehammer, during his travels, learned of an ancient beast called Khalsubarr, the Devourer of Artifacts, a beast whose mere name struck him with horror. Heinmarath altered his goals to learn more of the beast, and what he discovered terrified him. The creature could consume nearly any artifact, and, if awoken from its slumber beneath the Volcano of Azaranth, would proceed from world to world, destroying the great works of magical construction, growing ever more powerful as it consumed more and more. Such destruction struck Goldenhammer as utterly repugnant, and he set out to prevent the horror from being awoken or, failing that, to kill it. Goldenhammer set up a forge atop the mountain that lay beside the volcanic Mount Azaranth and worked day and night to augment the artifacts that he had collected, hoping to make them powerful enough to slay the creature should it awaken. Years later, a travelling daemon girl came to the mountain, recognizing the power that eminated from Goldenhammer's collection. Naria, princess of the daemons, immediately struck Heinmarath as a potential ally. Her interest in artifacts was almost as great as his own, she had managed to create the true runes, each of which was a powerful artifact, and the forces of her empire would serve well to help him defend his acquisitions against any sort of attack. Goldenhammer struck up a deal with Naria, becoming her master artifacer in exchange for her protection and assistance in defeating Khalsubarr, should it be released. Goldenhammer headed with her back to meet with Gillingman and her father, departing from Mount Azaranth just before the Mana Cannon incident occurred, managing through sheer luck to avoid defeat at the hands of Asaratain's undead army. Khalsubarr disappeared from beneath the volcano during the Mana Cannon incident, and Goldenhammer remains wary as to its location, searching for clues as to where the creature might have gone, though he has yet found no evidence to suggest that it is rampaging through the known universe in a frenzy of destruction. Goldenhammer currently serves as one of Naria's head generals, and he is assisting her through the development of countless new weapons in the rise of her empire. Unbeknownst to Heinmarath, his father died during his absence, and his clan members have sent out emissaries to search for him so that he can claim his throne, which is currently held by his brother, Arimann Goldenhammer II, who is acting as regent of the land until his missing brother is found. |
